Freestyle Aerobic Dancing or FAD for short is an excellent form of exertainment or exercise combined with entertainment discovered and experimented by me over the past few months. While normal exercise is quite tedious and that is why so few work out, FAD is very enjoyable and gives one a great workout exercising virtually every part of the body.
How is FAD done? Just before a bath, play choice internet radio or CD music in the privacy of a closed room. All you need is a 4x4 dressing room space, a large mirror and music that can be played off Internet radio stations from a system and speakers with at least 40 watts output. You can choose the genre of music you play, moving from classical to smooth jazz, to hip-hop, rap, rock,.. you name it. Then begin swaying and dancing to the tune of the music for 20 minutes. You need not worry about the style of dancing as long as you are in constant motion. A simple light in the room where you practise FAD can add to the ambience and visual effects. You can also add a burning aromatic candle for the aroma. The large mirror will help you visualise your body as it is and as it should be. The mirror image also enables you to perceive your ribs even when they are not normally seen by the naked eye. FAD is done barefoot and even barebacked.
At the end of the session, you will find yourself sweating profusely.
FAD is great fun. In one word, it is 'funtastic'. FAD gives you the feeling of wellness right through the day, that extra zing that makes you want to sing. You can feel the endorphins and the good brain chemicals beginning to flow. As it is enjoyable, there is no resistance to forming the habit easily. I hardly miss a day.
FAD is effective as it not only demystifies dance but it combines the audio, the visual, the sensory and the feel good effects. It helps you kick your blues along with your fat in these times when recession is bordering on depression. In the past three months, it has helped to reduce 5 kilos. Since it combines many disciplines like dance, exercise, wellness, music, happiness, emotions, self awareness, etc., FAD gives a spurt to our creative juices. It also acts as a great stress buster.
You can conclude your usual morning regimen with an enjoyable 20 minute session of FAD. There is no lower or upper age limit for practising FAD. It can be practised individually or in groups. There is no need for a trainer or any formal training as it does not require any carefully orchestrated or choreographed moves.
Apart from individuals the world over, corporates, army personnel and police could use FAD to beat stress, fitness, wellness and morale issues that they are confronting. I intend to turn it into a global movement of fitness, wellness and happiness. All who are interested do send in your feedback with or without trying it to my id below.
